Social Issues
Prejudice: The student will be able to define and recognize prejudice in literature and their daily life.
Anthropomorphism: The student will understand the use of anthropomorphism in literary texts. This will be discussed along with prejudices as an interdisciplinary material with the animals portraying different races.
Empathy: The students will be able to learn to empathize with the character's struggles, and attempt to relate persecution they may have faced, even on a smaller scale, to the character’s persecution.
Literary Lessons
Situational Irony: The students will be able to locate situational irony in literary works as well as real life scenarios.
Anthropomorphism: See note under social issues. The students can view how anthropomorphism is used in other texts as well.
Reading Comics: The students will know how to read, interpret, and analyze comics
Theme: The students will be able to apply thematic elements in the text to what the author is relating to the modern world.
History: The students will learn the importance of the Holocaust by reading some primary sources on personal accounts of the Holocaust.
Art: The students will learn how an artist places symbols into panels to express certain ideals and present themes throughout a work.
